Jennifer Coolidge Wins Supporting Actress at Emmys for The White Lotus –

Tanya McQuoid lives on from beyond the waters of the Mediterranean, as Jennifer Coolidge has won the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series Emmy for her performance in “The White Lotus.”

This is her second win for “The White Lotus.” Coolidge won previously for her performance as the dazed and grieving Tanya in the HBO smash hit’s Season 1 back in summer 2022 when the television academy still considered Mike White’s vacation nightmare series a “limited or anthology series.” With rule changes, and another season interconnected to those past on the way, “The White Lotus” is now technically a drama series per an Emmys category shift in February 2023.

It’s hard to believe we are still talking about “The White Lotus” Season 2, which premiered in October 2022, but so goes the beloved show’s staying power. Season 2 found Tanya adrift (again) in Sicily, now married to BLM (not that BLM) worker Greg (Jon Gries), and employing Portia (Haley Lu Richardson) as her assistant during a romantic post-nuptials getaway at the posh Taormina resort. This season gave Tanya plenty of iconic lines ready for social media, namely, “These gays… they’re trying to kill me.”

“The White Lotus” Season 3, meanwhile, is set in Thailand, and has already lined up a murderers’ row of stars: Carrie Coon, Jason Isaac, Michelle Monaghan, and Parker Posey among them. Natasha Rothwell will meanwhile reprise her role of Belinda, who put up with a lot of crap from hotel guest Tanya including a failed business venture, from Season 1. While there will be no Tanya next season (RIP), surely her ghost will live on — and, besides, we’re going to have to reckon with her untimely death and Greg’s attempt to have her killed.

“The White Lotus” Season 2 on Emmys night is also up for Best Drama Series. The series cleaned up at the 2023 Emmys, taking home the prize for outstanding limited or anthology series. Creator White has even said he’s open to a “White Lotus” spinoff sequel series with a de-aged Jennifer Coolidge. That may have been a joke, but we’re invoking it again just for the sake of making that happen.

The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards were held Monday, January 15 at 8 p.m. ET on Fox. The ceremony, which usually takes place in September, was delayed to accommodate the WGA and SAG strikes. That’s why the nominees do not include any shows released after the May 31, 2023 filing deadline, including “The Curse,” “Fargo,” and other fall and winter premieres. The 76th Emmy Awards telecast is expected to run on the traditional schedule.
