Technology company Nokia turned a new leaf on Wednesday, unveiling an AI-powered tool that generates messages for industrial workers based on real-time data, including alerts about malfunctioning machines and suggested ways to increase factory output.
The tool, called “MX Workmate,” will extend Nokia’s existing communications technology used by industrial customers by leveraging generative AI large language models (LLMs) to write human-like text, the company said in a statement.
These solutions could include early warnings about machine malfunctions and recommended actions for repair, solutions to improve production quality and rates, or dealing with accidents in factories, Stephane Daeuble, Head of Marketing for Nokia Enterprise Solutions, said in a statement.

The Finland-based manufacturer already supplies 4G and 5G technology, which enables intra-company communications or helps industrial companies connect to data from machine sensors, among other uses. Daeuble, “The idea is that we have an assistant to help the employee make sense of all this data.” he said, adding that Nokia introduced this tool at a time when manufacturers were struggling with a shortage of qualified personnel.
Artificial intelligence, popularized by ChatGPT last year, can create human-like content, and experts warn this could lead to legal and ethical issues. Regarding Nokia’s car, it is stated that it complies with operational technology (OT) regulations. However, it is also stated that trusting advanced technology may take time and appropriate tests and adjustments are needed.
While it is stated that some issues, such as overcoming artificial intelligence hallucinations, are still in the research phase, it is emphasized that the tool must be accurate, clear, traceable and auditable.
